Claiming GST on Second Hand Goods

April 24, 2017

Wanting to claim GST on those second hand goods?

Here’s what details you will need:

  • The name and address of the supplier / recipient
  • The date of sale / purchase
  • A description of goods and services
  • The quantity or volume of goods and services
  • The price charged and the tax component

So if you buy anything off Trade Me and want to claim GST on that purchase, then you need to get the name and address of that person on Trade Me (their user name is not sufficient). If the IRD disputes the purchase, the onus of proof is on the person claiming it.
