Privacy, Technology & AI: What Our Clients Need to Know

September 18, 2026

As technology continues to evolve, so do the rules around how businesses collect, store and use personal information.

Recent changes to New Zealand’s privacy legislation have increased the information organisations must provide about how personal information is obtained and used, particularly when information is collected from third parties.

At the same time we, like most accounting firms, are increasingly using cloud-based software and emerging technologies such as AI to improve efficiency, security and client service.

What Does This Mean for You?

Over the coming months, we will be updating our Terms of Engagement to better reflect:

  • Recent privacy law changes.
  • The software platforms we use to provide our services.
  • How your information may be stored and processed by trusted third-party providers.
  • The responsible use of AI within our practice.

Our Commitment to You

Protecting your information remains one of our highest priorities. While technology continues to change, our commitment does not.

We will continue to:

  • Keep your information secure.
  • Be transparent about how it is used.
  • Meet our privacy obligations.
  • Use technology, including AI, responsibly and with appropriate oversight.

As re-engaging our entire client base is a reasonable sized job, we will complete this process as and when we prepare your group’s financial statements.

If you have any questions about how we manage your information, please feel free to contact our office.
